At First Travel Solutions (FTS) we do a significant amount of rail replacement work. That involves regular bus and coach movements, sometimes in very tight spaces, at rail stations across the UK.
We recently ran a refresher training course for some of our existing co-ordination staff that work out at these many stations during rail replacement projects.
Shahid Ullah, Operations Manager at First Travel Solutions comments; “It’s really important that we make sure our co-ordination staff are supported with the most recent up to date training required. At FTS we cover such a vast array of work for so many different clients it’s important our staff are fully trained to the highest possible standards.
This particular course focused on banksperson training and what the key objectives are. All staff are already fully qualified banksperson but it does no harm to undertake a refresher course from time to time.”
The recent training acted as a reminder as to what the objectives of a banksperson are. Firstly it’s to ensure pedestrians are kept clear of a reversing vehicle and secondly it’s to prevent collisions with other vehicles or fixed objects.
The course was delivered over a weekend and involved classroom learning as well as covering the practical exercises too. The classroom learning aspect of the course was undertaken by 2 highly experienced members of the FTS team; Sophie Watson, Assistant Operations Manager and Emma Murphy, Senior Co-ordination Administrator.
First Travel Solutions (FTS) were approached by Hull City Council to operate a Park & Ride service to support the transport requirements at this year’s Radio 1 Big Weekend.
This year’s event took place on the 27th and 28th of May at Burton Constable Hall in Hull and on hearing some of the stars in the line up – Little Mix, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, to name a few – we were only too happy to help.
Liaising with Hull City Council we firstly estimated how many concertgoers we thought would descend on Hull that weekend and worked from there. The team at FTS recruited 70 vehicles and drivers to support the planned Park & Ride service as well as additional FTS staff to assist with on the ground operational requirements.
The first Park & Ride shuttle service operated from Normandy Barracks in Leconfield, which is still a live MOD site. That in itself brought challenges from a security perspective! However, we successfully transported 4,500 concertgoers every day from the barracks. In addition to this FTS operated a drop off and pick up shuttle service from Grove Hill in Beverley. This site was for people who had pre-booked their cars prior to the event and from here we moved approximately 3,250 passengers daily.
Mick Coombes, Operations Planning Manager at First Travel Solutions comments; “This was yet another high profile event that the team at FTS worked hard to deliver for our client, Hull City Council.
It’s always a pleasure being part of these types of events as they’re all about transporting people safely to and from fun venues. People are out to have a great time and their day normally starts and finishes on board our transport so it’s really important that we provide them with a great experience.”
The Football Association of Wales have thanked and praised First Travel Solutions (FTS) for providing exceptional services at the UEFA Champions League final in Cardiff earlier this month and for their significant contribution to delivering a world-class event.
The success follows months of preparation by the team at FTS. During the event FTS provided rail support services between Bristol station and Cardiff, coach transfers for visiting fans from Bristol and Cardiff airports, Park and Ride services for those working at the match and VIP coaches and transport for the main sponsors.
The UEFA Champions League final is described as the biggest sporting event in the world this year and with thousands of Spanish and Italian fans travelling to Cardiff for the final it was a significant challenge for the team at FTS.
Andy Scholey, Managing Director at First Travel Solutions comments; "The Football Association of Wales have expressed their gratitude to our team for our contribution to making this high profile event such an overwhelming success.
I'm immensely proud of the professionalism and commitment shown by the team at FTS, not only during the event but also in the long months of planning before a ball was even kicked."
First Travel Solutions (FTS) is absolutely delighted to announce they will be supporting the Footbal Association of Wales with transport requirements for the forthcoming UEFA Champions League final.
The 2017 UEFA Champions League final takes place at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday 3rd June with the kick off scheduled for 19.45. Juventus face holders Real Madrid in what will be a much anticipated final.
FTS has been awarded the travel and transport contract and will be supporting the organisers with a wide and varied range of vehicle requirements. Services that will be operating for the event include rail support services between Bristol and Cardiff, the safe transportation of Juventus fans to and from Cardiff Airport and transporting Real Madrid fans from Bristol and Birmingham Airports.
In addition to this FTS will be providing park and ride services for staff who are working at the UEFA Champions League final as well as VIP coaches and transport for the main sponsors, Heineken.
Richard Kirk, Commercial Director for FTS comments; “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with the organisers of the UEFA Champions League final to project plan and deliver the transportation needs and requirements for what some might argue is one of the biggest events in the world.
Our remit on this contract is wide and varied and our vast team have been working hard for several months now to make sure we are ready to deliver another high profile sporting event.
We’ll have crew on the ground for the duration of the event to help fans, staff and visitors safely reach the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and also to assist with their return journey. We’re hoping we’ll get a sneaky peak at some of the world class football players that will be playing in the final on the 3rd of June!’
FTS wishes both Juventus and Real Madrid the very best of luck for the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday 3rd June.
First Travel Solutions (FTS) is delighted to announce that they will be supporting the 2017 Leeds Music Festival with coach travel to and from the event for the thousands of festivalgoers that are expected to attend.
Leeds Music Festival has become an iconic event hosting rock, pop, indie, electronic and alternative music all under one banner. With an eclectic mix of the world’s biggest artists, pulsating sounds and a fantastic atmosphere this festival is now at the forefront of the British music scene. This year’s event takes place from 25th to 27th August.
Richard Kirk, Commercial Director at FTS comments; “We’re delighted to once again be supporting promoters Festival Republic with the 2017 Leeds Music Festival. Due to the sheer scale of this event it presents many logistical challenges for everyone involved, not least the safe and smooth transfer of festivalgoers to the site on the outskirts of Leeds.
At FTS we will once again be drawing on our FirstGroup fleet as well as our wider network of trusted and accredited suppliers to ensure there’s a safe and reliable coach shuttle service in place for the duration of the event.
We’ve already started the internal process of planning for this large scale event and once again we’ll ensure we have staff on the ground for the duration to assist festivalgoers as they travel to and from the event.
In addition to this we’ll have a dedicated website where festivalgoers can visit in advance to purchase coach shuttle tickets. This speeds up the boarding process greatly and gives customers one less thing to think about on the day.”
The 2017 festival once again takes place at the 75,000 capacity venue Bramham Park just outside Leeds. Major headline acts have already been announced including Muse, Kasabian, Eminem, Bastille and Liam Gallagher.
